Scent Story
Her travels and adventures through exotic lands & forests enriched her nomadic mind, but as the sun went down each evening, a wistful yearning for a sense of belonging, overwhelmed her weary heart.
With each breath, she craved to feel a deep-rooted sense of being and yet this forlorn sensation of separation continued to seep into her core. There is no true sadness nor melancholy that she could articulate, only waves of nostalgia that stung as it engulfed her soul. She was separated from where her spirit felt most alive – where she felt rested and spacious. She needed to return to the place where her roots felt earthed, and her true spirit was genuinely loved.
The need to return to the people who would hold her close until her soul felt comforted, and where the scent of the familiar brought solace and gratitude to her very being.
The door opened, and with outstretched arms, her Ma greeted her with raw, unconditional love. The compassion in those teary, aged eyes, tore at her emotion-filled heart. Holding each other tightly, they cherished this shared intimacy – neither wanting to let go. She cradled her Ma’s head and inhaled the scent of her home. The old leather armchair, the untamed circles of smoky oudh and the delicate blooms of rose tangled around the warmth of spices.
No words were needed. She knew she was safe, and she knew that this moment, right there, was everything.
This place was their home. It was her homecoming. This is the scent of home.
